Fiber: strongest upload option where available
AT&T Fiber is mapped across a little more than half of 77054 in the
FCC-derived dataset reviewed here. AT&T's current Houston page
advertises symmetrical fiber tiers up to 5 Gbps where available.
This makes fiber particularly relevant for households with heavy
upload requirements, large cloud transfers, frequent video calls,
remote production work or multiple simultaneous users.
Availability is not uniform. A building a few blocks away can have
a different fiber result, and multifamily buildings may have
different internal wiring or provider arrangements.
Cable: broadest traditional wired footprint
Xfinity's cable network covers approximately 96.2% of 77054 in the
FCC-derived dataset. That makes cable the most consistently available
wired technology identified for the ZIP.
The tradeoff is upload performance. The ZIP-level data shows that
Xfinity upload capabilities vary substantially by mapped service
type and plan, so a household comparing cable with fiber should
look at upload speed as well as the headline download number.
5G home internet: broad alternative to wired service
T-Mobile and Verizon both show very broad fixed-wireless coverage
in ZIP-level datasets for 77054. Current property-level broadband
records reviewed for this ZIP also show Verizon and T-Mobile as
alternatives alongside AT&T Fiber and Xfinity.
Wireless availability does not mean a fixed speed. Signal strength,
network load, gateway placement and local capacity can affect the
experience, so an address-level eligibility check is essential.
EarthLink and other branded services
Some broadband directories list EarthLink separately in 77054.
The underlying mapped fiber footprint can overlap with AT&T
infrastructure, while fixed-wireless offerings can also overlap
with other network operators.
For that reason, this guide emphasizes the underlying connection
technology instead of treating every reseller or alternate billing
brand as a separate physical network.
